RHC Media Inc. has hired boutique investment bank DeSilva & Phillips to find a buyer for its Red Herring magazine, according to people familiar with the situation, a move that could lead to the shuttering of what was a hot title during the dot-com boom.

AirFiber, the San Diego-based free space optics firm which once had lured funding from high-profile vendors such as Qualcomm and Nortel Networks, has laid off all of its 60 employees and closed its doors.

Agilent posted weak results that were in line with its recently lowered estimates. The communications, electronics and life-sciences company plans to cut 4,000 more jobs.

The publishers of the San Francisco Examiner fired most of the staff Friday and will start distributing a smaller, free newspaper Monday. James Fang, the son of publisher Florence Fang, broke the news to the staff at a Friday afternoon meeting, reading a one-sentence statement saying the paper could no longer continue in its current format. About 40 people lost their jobs.

Advanced Micro Devices cut about 350 jobs this week as part of a previously announced plan to lower costs. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chipmaker has now reduced its work force by about 1,550 positions worldwide.

National Semiconductor Corp. plans a series of moves, including a 5% work-force reduction, designed to streamline its cost structure. The company said it will realign some manufacturing, product development and support personnel, immediately cutting about 500 positions from its world-wide work force of about 10,000 employees.

Dice, Inc., a provider of online recruiting services for technology professionals, announced that it has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York. The filing was made together with a Plan of Reorganization and a related Disclosure Statement jointly proposed by the Company and its largest noteholder.

Micron Technology Inc., the world's second-largest computer memory chip maker, announced on that it is laying off 10% of its world-wide labor force of over 18,000.

Overture Services Inc. agreed to acquire CMGI Inc.'s AltaVista Co. unit for $140 million in cash and stock, marking the latest deal in the search-engine arena.
